Before written records and formal inquiry, myths served as the primary way humans made sense of the world. These stories explained the origins of life, natural events, and human behavior through symbolic narratives involving gods, spirits, and supernatural forces. Myths offered meaning and comfort, connecting people to their environment and community.
For example, many ancient cultures believed that thunder was the voice of a god or that the sun was pulled across the sky by a divine chariot. These explanations were not meant to be scientific but to provide a framework for understanding existence and guiding moral behavior.
